3 Tips to Prepare for Your Next Website Project

3 Tips to Prepare for Your Next Website Project

You’ve decided it is time to redesign your website and are ready to get started with the process but now you’re asking yourself a very simple question: What is the next step? You may think that you are ready to go and all that needs to be done is a little coding before a beautiful and functional website is up and running for you to show the world, but a lot of preparation and planning needs to be done to bring your vision to life.

When a website is being built, there are a number of important things needed from you to complete the process. Knowing what is needed from your end and providing it in a timely manner will improve the efficiency of the work and greatly reduce the chances of any issues down the line. After all, everyone involved in the process likes things to run smoothly!

 What is needed from you?

1. Content

Good content is the cornerstone to an entire website. It lets the visitor know what they’re reading about and why they should care about what you have to say.

You should have all the content for your website written and ready to go before you even start any other parts of the project. This will prevent you from realizing you need extra pages for more information later in the project. It will also allow the design of the site to be created with the content in mind. If you don’t already have content and are not able to write it yourself, don’t worry! You can always hire a professional content writer to create some high quality content for you.

2. Images

Just as a website is incomplete without content, it will also not function well if it lacks images. Reading a website without any images can drive visitors away from your site – after all, humans are visual creatures, and the web is a visual place. Without images, your great content might never get read.

You should compile a list of images to use for your site before starting the design so that the designer can use them in the most effective way. If you don’t have images to use already, try checking out any number of stock photo sites online that have large databases with photos of everything imaginable that you can buy the rights to use. We like Stock Photo Secrets, but don’t tell — it’s secret!

3. Hosting information

Without hosting, you essentially don’t have a website. Once your website is complete, your domain needs a host. Making sure you know the log in information for your hosting account and being able to provide access to it when needed is the single most important thing during the website process. Not having your hosting information on hand can completely stall the project until the hosting situation is resolved. Make sure you know where your website is hosted and what all your log in information is. If you haven’t set up hosting yet or don’t know what you need, just ask!

Thinking about these sorts of things ahead of time will save you time and energy in the long run, and will ensure your project goes as smoothly as possible. Getting the basics out of the way will allow you to focus more on the overall goal and bring your vision to life!
